Athletics

TPS students in jerseys huddle with their coach.

Athletics and other extracurricular activities are a very important part of Toronto Prep School. We regard both as essential components in a well-rounded education.

Toronto Prep is a chartered member of the Small Schools Athletic Federation (SSAF) and the Toronto District Colleges Athletic Association (TDCAA).

Through these athletic organizations, we have the opportunity to compete in a large variety of leagues, meets, and single-day events. These organizations provide our students with both competitive challenges and leadership opportunities. Through team sports, we strive to develop our players and team’s ability, sportsmanship, dedication, determination and enjoyment of physical activity.

A message from the directors of athletics

Welcome to athletics at Toronto Prep School

At TPS, we consider athletics an integral part of the educational experience. Athletic participation offers unique learning opportunities that complement the cognitive, social and emotional growth that students experience in other areas of school life. We view competitive athletics as a healthy educational and physiological activity because it challenges participants to excel, discover their physical limits and work cooperatively with team members.

Our coaches and staff are committed to developing a well-rounded student-athlete and providing an inclusive and safe environment.

Each of the coaches is committed to teaching our athletes the skills and strategies of the game, good sportsmanship and the meaning of commitment, responsibility and hard work.

The Toronto Prep athletic department expects that our athletes will make their own commitment to Toronto Prep athletics by working to develop their talents to the maximum degree, representing Toronto Prep athletics positively and competitively and displaying a positive attitude, sportsmanship and fair play.

The school is a member of two interscholastic sports organizations, the Small Schools Athletic Association (SSAF) and the Toronto District Colleges Athletic Association (TDCAA). The affiliation with the TDCAA allows student-athletes and teams to qualify for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Championships. Since its founding in 2009, Toronto Prep has won 43 SSAF championship banners, 5 TDCAA championships and numerous medals in individual SSAF and TDCAA competitions.

We look forward to your involvement with Toronto Prep athletics and to working with you during this school year. Go Spartans!
